M&J Evans was founded in the West Midlands in 2003 as a family-run business. Through our strong client base, we have grown our reputation nationally as the groundworks partner of choice. Our business is underpinned by our core values of safety-led, high quality delivery, value for money and industry expertise.

Our sustained growth as a business means we can operate and deliver our services to major housebuilders and developers in Civil Engineering, Groundworks and Foundation across different regional geographies.

Chief Executive Officer

Alex began his journey with M&J Evans in 2003 as a young Quantity Surveyor, steadily advancing through a series of pivotal roles including Commercial Manager, Commercial Director, and Managing Director for the Midlands regional team.

Along the way, he became a shareholder and later assumed the position of Chief Commercial Officer. Throughout his remarkable career in both the industry and at M&J, Alex has consistently demonstrated exceptional leadership and commitment. Now, as Chief Executive Officer, he draws upon more than 25 years of expertise in Groundworks and Civils, offering a deep understanding of both commercial strategy and the rich history of M&J.

Steve Hutchinson

Chief Financial Officer

Steve joined the Management team in October 2020, bringing over 30 years of experience in manufacturing and mining. He is a chartered accountant, holds an MBA, and has held many senior roles.

Steve has also held CFO positions where his main focus has been on capital investment, product innovation, and technology, whilst maintaining strict control of the balance sheet.

Steve’s role plays an integral part in the strategic management across the group through his experience of process improvement, strict cash management, and M&A.

Judith brings more than 25 years of rich and varied experience across the HR landscape, operating at an international level as part of a Global Senior Leadership Team. Her career spans a wide range of sectors—including retail, FMCG, e-commerce, fleet management solutions, healthcare, and children’s education services—giving her a uniquely broad and insightful perspective.

At the heart of Judith’s work is a passion for transformation and meaningful change. She has led large-scale organisational development programmes, cultural transformation initiatives, and strategic people agendas that have delivered measurable improvements in performance, engagement, and retention. Judith is highly experienced in shaping and executing people strategies aligned to business growth, with particular strengths in talent development, succession planning, and leadership capability.

She is a dynamic and forward-thinking leader, recognised for her ability to elevate business performance through strong, values-driven leadership. With a deep commitment to diversity, inclusion, and building truly engaged workforces, Judith inspires progress, cultivates talent, and helps organisations thrive in an ever-evolving environment. Known for her collaborative approach and commercial mindset, she partners closely with senior stakeholders to drive sustainable, people-focused outcomes.

Chief Operating Officer

Chris brings over two decades of dedicated experience within the Groundworks and Civil Engineering industry, having begun his journey at an early age working on site.

Driven by ambition and a commitment to continuous growth, Chris transitioned into the commercial arena as a Quantity Surveyor, where he quickly demonstrated a sharp commercial acumen and an ability to navigate complex projects with confidence and precision. Over the years, he has steadily built a highly successful and progressive career, earning the respect of colleagues, clients, and industry peers alike.

 Since joining M&J Evans, Chris has cultivated an enviable reputation across the industry—not only for his expertise and leadership, but for his ability to inspire those around him and drive sustainable success. His recent promotion to Chief Operating Officer is a testament to his outstanding contribution, strategic vision, and unwavering commitment to the continued growth and performance of M&J Evans.

Adam Walker

Managing Director - North West & Yorkshire

Adam joined the Senior Management team in April 2021 as Managing Director for our North West regional office.

Adam has over 14 years of experience within the construction industry. Prior to joining the team, he worked for Taylor Wimpey where he started as an Assistant Quantity Surveyor and worked his way up to hold the position of Regional Operations Director before joining M&J Evans.

Managing Director - East & West Midlands

Michael started his career as a Quantity Surveyor in 2008, working in Main Contracting before moving in to Bulk Earthworks in 2011. In 2013 he joined M&J Evans initially as a Quantity Surveyor before progressing into the role of Commercial Manager. In 2019 he was promoted to Commercial Director before his recent appointment to Managing Director for the West Midlands region.

Michael brings good commercial acumen and is able to offer a great understanding of his client base through his strong relationships he has built within the West Midlands region.

Managing Director - Southern & Eastern Counties

James joined the Senior Management Team in April 2019 as Managing Director for the Southern regional office.

James has over 25-years’ experience of working within the construction industry, progressing through a number of roles before becoming Commercial Director before joining M&J Evans.

James’ experience offers a balanced understanding of both client and contractor needs.

Managing Director – Cotswolds, South West & South East

Adrian has over 40 years’ experience within the housebuilding industry, having worked for two National House Builders before moving to the Groundworks & Civil Engineering Sector.

Adrian joined M&J in late 2019 as Commercial Director of the Southern Region and played a key role in its success, before taking on the role as Managing Director of the South West Region in November 2023.

Steve has over 25 years’ experience within the construction industry, predominantly focusing on the building products, housebuilding, commercial development, and civil engineering.  He has held several senior positions for large blue-chip companies before he joined the senior team in July 2023.

Steve brings another dynamic to the team, having a well-rounded understanding of the industry.

Non Executive Chairman

Dave joined M&J Evans as Chairman in November 2018. Dave has over 40 years’ experience in the construction industry. During that time he spent seven years as CEO of Keepmoat Homes. There, Dave was responsible for growing the business to deliver an extra 3,000 homes a year. From 2008 to 2012 he held the role of CEO at Apollo Property Services Group. Before merging with Keepmoat Homes in 2012, Dave successfully transformed the regional business into a national giant that delivered healthy profits for Apollo Property Services Group’s shareholders.

Dave is passionate about the regional expansion and growth of M&J Evans and for it to become the market-leading groundwork partner of choice for developers and housebuilders.

Reza has been involved with M&J Evans Construction since September 2018.

Reza is a Partner at Freshstream, an investment firm based in London, focusing on mid-market companies in the UK.

Reza’s focus is to ensure that M&J Evans Construction’s reputation precedes itself in delivering the highest quality service for its customers.
